- Assuming that you have the proper adapter to convert an RJ-11 to the UK
- phone plug, and that you hear the dialtone if you turn the modem's speaker
- on (you might otherwise be on a digital PBX of some sort), the only thing
- I can think of is that your modem is finicky about the frequency of the
- dialtone it's expecting and doesn't like the way the UK one sounds. In
- that case, you should be able to convince your modem not to worry about a
- dialtone and just start dialing; ATX3 does it on many modems, your mileage
- may vary.
